If you follow the concours circuit- Pebble Beach, Amelia Island, Greenwich- there’s one Northeast event that serious collectors keep adding to their fall calendar: the Scarsdale Concours d’Elegance.
Held each October in the heart of Westchester County, New York, the Scarsdale Concours brings together over 150 classic, vintage, and exotic vehicles on the elegant streets of Scarsdale Village. Ferraris gleam beside pre-war Rolls-Royces. American muscle cars sit steps away from immaculate European grand tourers. And for one Sunday a year, this charming New York suburb becomes a destination for collectors, photographers, and enthusiasts from across the country.
For board member Alex Forschner, the Scarsdale Concours is more than a car show – it’s a homecoming. A lifelong Scarsdale resident, entrepreneur, and dedicated car enthusiast, Forschner brings both civic pride and genuine automotive passion to his role on the event’s board of directors.
“This event represents everything great about the car community,” says Forschner. “It’s about the cars, yes – but it’s also about the people, the stories, and giving back to the community that shaped us.”
Forschner’s background as a business executive and community leader makes him a natural fit for an event that has always been driven as much by purpose as by passion. Since its founding in 2003, the Scarsdale Concours has raised over $430,000 for local and national charities, including the Paulie Strong Foundation and Habitat for Humanity.
The Scarsdale Concours was born from a remarkably simple idea. In 2003, two Scarsdale High School sophomores – Evan M. Cygler and Dennis O’Leary III – turned their love of cars into the area’s most beloved automotive tradition. With support from local government and the Scarsdale
Police Department, they launched what would become one of the Northeast’s premier concours events.
Today, the show is guided by a board of accomplished local enthusiasts, including Alex Forschner, who carry forward the founding spirit: showcase extraordinary automobiles, celebrate community, and raise meaningful funds for charity.

Beyond the cars, the day features live music, vendor booths, excellent food, and an atmosphere that welcomes everyone from seasoned collectors to first-time attendees.
What sets Scarsdale apart from larger concours events is intimacy. You can walk up to any car on the field, speak directly with its owner, and hear the story behind it – the restoration, the find, the history. The village setting is walkable, photogenic, and unlike anything you’ll find at a fairground or racetrack show.
For Alex Forschner, that intimacy is the whole point. “We’re not trying to be Pebble Beach,” he explains. “We’re something different – a true community event that happens to feature world-class cars. That combination is rare, and we protect it.”
